Principal Secretary for Irrigation Ephantus Kimotho earlier today, attended a technical identification mission meeting for the Kenya Watersheds Services Improvement Program (KEWASIP) which was held at a Nairobi Hotel.
KEWASIP is a five-year program supported by the World Bank, aiming at reviving degraded landscapes and enhancing watershed services, fostering climate change resilience, and improving livelihoods
Speaking at the event, PS Kimotho emphasized the inclusion of Irrigation Water User Associations, which will go a long way in educating farmers on protecting and reclaiming degraded land including arid and semi-arid zones.
The program aims to rehabilitate degraded landscapes and enhance watershed services, fostering climate change resilience and improved livelihoods.
The geographical focus spans the ecosystems of Mt. Kenya and Mau Forest, with a strategic plan to fortify the capacities of national, county, and local institutions.
This comprehensive effort seeks to sustainably manage watersheds, restore degraded areas, and advocate for sustainable land management practices, ultimately boosting land productivity.
Principal Secretaries present were Eng. Festus K Ng’eno PS to the Environment and Climate Change state department, Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, PS Forestry and Silvia Museiya, the PS to the state department of wildlife.
Mr. Ragini Dalal representing the World Bank, representatives from Principal Secretaries in state Department for Agriculture, ASALs, and Officers from state Corporations were also in attendance.
