President Ruto’s Bottom-Up Transformation agenda’s success is heavily invested in the success of the agricultural sector as this sector is one of the most fundamental pillars of the country’s development and economic growth.
In line with this agenda, the PS for State Department of Crop Development, Mr. Kello Harsama today met with AGRA supports development of sustainable seed systems, initiatives aimed at improving policy environments.
The PS expressed his gratitude for their recent introduction of the Kwamboka rice variety in the Mwea Tebere Irrigation scheme. This has revolutionized the rice value chain, leading to increased incomes improved food security and livelihoods.

To align their priorities with the government’s BETA agenda, AGRA has agreed to support the cultivation of highland rice suitable for rain-fed farming as well as growth of maize, potatoes, and beans. This support will contribute to national food and nutrition security and help us harness our potential in food production.

AGRA has also committed to partner with government in planning the high-level African Union Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit slated for November 2023 in Nairobi .The conference will be attended by delegates from all AU countries. AGRA Kenya team, led by the institution’s president Dr. Agnes Kalibata.
