Ministry of Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, has called on to Kenyan corporate organizations, urging them to collaborate with the Government in supporting the growth and development of sports within the country.

CS Ababu emphasized the need for corporations to view their support for sports as an investment rather than merely a charitable endeavour.

He highlighted the Government’s eagerness to engage with private sector institutions to elevate sports into a lucrative economic venture that not only benefits athletes but also yields substantial returns.

“The government cannot shoulder the entire responsibility of sports development and its transformation into a robust economic ecosystem alone. This endeavour necessitates partnerships with the corporate sector,” Ababu asserted.

The Cabinet Secretary also stressed on the importance of accountability, transparency, good governance, and a strong development agenda for sports federations to qualify for government funding.

Ababu urged sports federations to evolve into hubs for nurturing talent, with a particular focus on implementing comprehensive youth and grassroots development programs.

“Federations must prioritize talent cultivation by allocating resources to youth and grassroots development initiatives,” the CS emphasized.

He said that funding for events would be contingent upon demonstrating a genuine commitment to youth development.
