The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE) Mr. Eliud Owalo has today received a report on various recommendations given by the Sector Working Group on policy and legislative reforms.
The Sector Working Group led by Prof. Timothy Waema has been working for three months on examining the existing policy, legislative, institutional, administrative and operational structures, systems and strategies and recommending comprehensive reforms in the ICT Sector.
They were also tasked with identifying emerging technologies and other areas that need legal and policy intervention and make appropriate policy and legislative proposals.
The team was also supposed to assess and advise on necessary reforms to enable MICDE meet its present mandate and expectations in a fast-changing operational environment; and, drafting relevant Bills, draft Policies and Strategy documents.
Members of the Sector Working Group gave a presentation outlining suitable recommendations on the thematic areas; ICT sectoral reforms and broadcasting and telecommunication sectoral reforms.
The CS was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui and Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Prof. Edward Kisangani.
They thanked the Sector Working Group for their commendable work and also gave their feedback regarding the recommendations given.
Speaking on behalf of the Sector Working Group, Prof. Waema assured that the team will put into consideration the sentiments of the three leaders and promised to give a beneficial final report in due course.
