Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to prioritize the security of Lamu residents, affirming the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety amidst rising concerns.
Speaking at the funeral of Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua in Mpeketoni on Thursday, Gachagua stated, “I want to assure the people of Lamu that we have prioritized security issues and we will not back down. That is why we have deployed more security officers here to ensure the security of the people of Lamu and live without fear.”
The Deputy President’s remarks come in response to a call from nominated Senator Shakila Abdallah, who urged the government to remove sniffer dogs from roadblocks in the region.
Abdullah emphasized the need for respect for local customs, stating, “Please remove them, we don’t want them on roadblocks. We as Muslims request that you respect our religion, remove the dogs, and conduct the search in any other way, but we don’t want dogs.”
In addressing insecurity challenges, Gachagua highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance security measures in troubled areas, including revamping existing equipment and acquiring new tools.
He reassured residents that both he and President William Ruto are dedicated to creating a secure environment, stating, “The President and I are committed to ensuring there is security for everyone so that everybody can do their job.” The government continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens.
