A new Mother and Child Unit was unveiled at Nyahururu Referral Hospital today, marking a significant advancement in healthcare for the region. Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha joined Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of maternal and child health services.

Deputy President Gachagua commended the collaborative efforts between the National and County Governments in completing the unit, announcing a financial commitment of 90 million shillings for a new outpatient wing at the request of Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu.

He reiterated the Kenya Kwanza administration’s support for Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and combating lifestyle diseases, emphasizing fair remuneration for CHPs.

CS Nakhumicha also highlighted updates on the upcoming registration of Kenyans into the new Social Health Insurance, set to begin next month with implementation planned for the 2024/2025 financial year.

The inauguration of the Mother and Child Unit represented a significant step towards improving healthcare for mothers and children in Nyahururu, demonstrating the government’s commitment to universal healthcare access.

It also underscored the Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment in maternal and children healthcare in the country.
