Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hailed sports as a crucial element in the battle against alcoholism and illicit brew in Kenya.
Hosting top athletes at his official residence in Karen, Gachagua commended the youth’s involvement in sports for significantly reducing alcohol-related challenges.
Gachagua stated, “Sports is very important and I want to encourage you to continue. It has helped us a lot with the words alcohol and drugs and addictions.” He further emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing sports facilities nationwide to support athletics and other sports.
Moreover, Gachagua praised the sporting community for promoting national unity, stating, “Things to do with athletics end ethnic issues in Kenya. When you win, we say you are Kenyan.” He assured athletes that the government would address concerns regarding elections in Kenyan athletics to maintain stability in major events like the Olympics.
Additionally, Gachagua advised athletes to make informed financial decisions, noting the importance of mentorship from experienced individuals.
