In a remarkable development, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the Eastern Region have reported a staggering enrollment increase of 1,000 percent, according to Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich.

“Demand for TVET programs is soaring as youth and communities seek technical training,” Rotich stated during a press briefing following his visit to government projects at Konza Technopolis in Machakos County. He highlighted a dramatic growth in student numbers at two institutions, rising from approximately 100 to 4,500 and 3,700, respectively.

During the tour, Rotich reaffirmed the government’s commitment to executing development projects on time and within budget. “I promise our citizens that I’m serious about our work, and they should expect value for every penny invested in these projects,” he declared.

The ongoing initiatives, including an affordable housing project with 4,118 units and the Kinanie Leather Industrial Park, are part of a broader strategy to enhance regional development. However, Rotich acknowledged challenges, particularly in financial flows that have hindered some projects.

“We intend to erase the misconception that the government is inactive,” he said, emphasizing the need for public engagement to showcase successful government efforts. He encouraged contractors to remain patient despite potential delays, assuring them of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations.

This significant increase in TVET enrollment signals a turning point for youth empowerment and skills development in the Eastern Region.
