The Kenya Kwanza government continues to take measures to improve the agricultural sub-sectors such as dairy, livestock, and beef sectors. As more proof of the dedication, the Ministry of Agriculture has committed to complete the construction of the Isiolo Abattoir.
Agriculture CS, accompanied by PS Jonathan Mueke and Isiolo County CEC for Agriculture inspected the construction site of the abattoir where they made the promise to ensure a speedy completion of the facility.
Hon. Mithika revealed that the construction progress is on, with the abattoir predicted to be completed within of 90 days. This facility, a cornerstone of the Bottom-up Economic agenda, aims to rejuvenate the beef, dairy, and leather value chains.
The Isiolo abattoir will serve as a game-changing meat hub, benefiting six surrounding counties by sourcing raw materials from their livestock. To ensure compliance with market standards, my ministry is collaborating closely with county governments to train livestock farmers in animal husbandry techniques.
As stated by PS Mueke, the facility will be a game changer aimed at providing a ready market for all livestock, putting money in the pockets of the country’s pastoralists, consistently improving their livelihoods and transforming Kenya’s economy.
“In an effort to revitalize the meat value chain and enable our farmers produce meat of sufficient quality and volumes for the local and export markets, we are committed as government to completing the Isiolo Abattoir, a modern, fully automated facility for meat value addition,” said PS Mueke
The abattoir will enable value addition to livestock products. By processing animals locally, farmers can access markets for processed meat, such as beef cuts and other products like hides and skins. This increases the value of their livestock and provides additional income opportunities.
