Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has announced a significant improvement in the security situation in Turkana County, thanks to the successful implementation of Operation Maliza Uhalifu.
Speaking after a security forum in Lodwar Town, Kindiki highlighted the positive impact of the recruitment, training, and deployment of National Police Reservists in bolstering security efforts in the region.
Kindiki stated, “The government remains focused on complete suppression and neutralization of terrorism, banditry, livestock rustling, and other organized criminal activities.”
He also unveiled a new arsenal of security equipment aimed at combating crime, particularly terrorism and banditry, in Turkana County and beyond, as part of a comprehensive plan to modernize security infrastructure with a budget of Sh37 billion over five years.
Turkana County, long plagued by insecurity due to conflicts between the Toposa community from South Sudan and the Turkana community in Kenya, has seen a remarkable reduction in violent incidents along the Kitale-Lodwar Highway and other hotspots.
The recent efforts are part of the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and prosperity, with frontline officers now equipped in strategic bases across various regions to enhance security measures.
