James Kipsiele Tembur has been appointed as the Director General of the National Youth Service (NYS) in Kenya. President William Samoei Ruto, in a gazette notice dated December 19, 2023, declared, “I appoint James Kipsiele Tembur to be the Director-General of the National Youth Service, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 20th December, 2023.”
Tembur, expressing his gratitude, stated, “I am honored to have been chosen for this vital role and I am committed to serving the youth of Kenya to the best of my abilities.” His term will commence on December 20, 2023, marking a new era for the NYS under his leadership.
The selection process, which culminated in Tembur’s appointment, involved interviews at the NYS headquarters on December 4, 2023. “I am humbled by the trust placed in me by the selection panel and I am eager to contribute to the positive development of the National Youth Service,” Tembur added.
Tembur’s appointment follows the conclusion of Matilda Sakwa’s tenure as the acting Director General in April 2023.
