Kenya is bracing for a week of unpredictable weather, with the Kenya Meteorological Department issuing a five-day forecast predicting cold, cloudy, and rainy conditions across multiple regions.

Beginning Saturday, August 31, and extending through Wednesday, September 3, residents in Nairobi, Kiambu, and the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley should prepare for fluctuating temperatures and sporadic rain. “Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands and the South-eastern lowlands,” said David Gikungu, Director of the Kenya Meteorological Department.

Counties in the Highlands, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, and Nyeri, will see scattered showers on Saturday, with cloudy mornings and evening showers expected through Monday. The weather will become significantly wetter by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temperatures will vary greatly, ranging from a brisk 5°C to a more comfortable 29°C, prompting residents to stay vigilant while going about their daily activities.

Further south, the South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui and Makueni, will experience a mixed bag of sunny weather interspersed with clouds, with temperatures dipping as low as 9°C.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, covering counties like Kisumu and Migori, are also predicted to face rain throughout the weekend with thunderstorms likely from Saturday to Wednesday. Coastal areas, including Mombasa and Kilifi, should prepare for continuous showers and cloudy skies, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 30°C throughout the week.
