The Kenya National Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has purchased a cutting-edge Cobalt 60 (CO-60) radiation calibration system in an effort to combat cancer. This huge breakthrough is a game changer for the country’s healthcare sector, according to Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano.

In an exclusive statement, CS Miano declared, “The Cobalt 60 machine is a crucial step towards elevating healthcare standards and leading the battle against cancer in Kenya and beyond. This state-of-the-art technology will revolutionize cancer treatment and minimize side effects, positioning Kenya as a healthcare leader in Eastern Africa.”

The collaboration between ministries and stakeholders has been highlighted as key to ensuring the success and sustainability of this project. The Cobalt 60 machine, the first of its kind in East Africa and the fourth on the continent, is set to propel the country towards excellence in healthcare delivery.

In response to this acquisition, Shaukat Abdulrazak, Managing Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, commended KEBS, stating, “Congratulations to KEBS for acquiring the Cobalt 60 machine. This move will elevate cancer dosimetry and align with Kenya’s strategic healthcare plan, setting a new standard for healthcare in the region.”
