Kenya is gearing up to host the 14th East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games from December 6th to 18th, 2024, with advanced preparations already underway in Mombasa.

A joint planning committee, led by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega, recently toured the various facilities designated for the games, including the KPA Mbaraki Sports Club and the Mombasa Sports Club.

Kega confirmed that all eight EAC partner states, including Somalia, will participate in events such as athletics, football, basketball, tug of war, PWD darts, and golf. “The essence of these inter-parliamentary games is not just to compete against each other. It is about integrating our people. There is no better way of uniting within the EAC than through sports,” Kega stated.

He expressed confidence in Kenya’s preparedness, stating, “We believe it will be better than last year,” referencing the successful event in Kigali, Rwanda. Kega also emphasized the need for more inclusive activities in future games, such as chess, badminton, and swimming.

Vincent Musyoka, Chairman of the National Assembly Bunge Sports Club, highlighted the urgency of renovating playgrounds for future events, urging investment in public sporting facilities.

Enhanced security measures will be implemented, involving collaboration between the County Inspectorate and the National Police Service as over 1,500 guests are expected, boosting local tourism during the event.
