The Kenyan Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has officially announced lucrative business opportunities for Kenyan entrepreneurs in China.

In a notice issued by the Kenyan Embassy in Beijing on Thursday, the government invited eligible business owners to participate in a prequalification registration process to supply goods and services from fiscal years 2024 to 2026.

“The State Department for Diaspora Affairs is inviting interested Kenyan-owned businesses in China to submit bid documents for pre-qualification/registering for the supply of goods and services,” the notice stated.

The government is seeking services in four key categories, with a focus on event management, including master of ceremonies, as the top priority. Additional categories include catering services, repatriation, and hiring of motor vehicles abroad.

To qualify for the bidding process, businesses must submit their country profiles to the Kenyan embassy by the deadline of October 2, 2024, via email at [email protected].

This initiative aims to promote the growth of Kenyan diaspora businesses and enhance the country’s economy through increased remittances. In line with President William Ruto’s vision, the government has set a target to raise remittances to Ksh1 trillion.

“This effort is designed to encourage Kenyans abroad to invest back home,” the noted. The strategies include tax sensitization, the introduction of a savings scheme, and a diaspora bond to foster investment.
