The Ministry of Health has received a donation of 940 mobile tablets valued at Sh62 million (USD476,000) from the WHO. These tablets are expected to transform the handling of immunization data across the country, affecting 315 subcounties in all 47 counties.
The World Health Organisation representative in Kenya, Dr. Abdourahmane Diallo, hailed the tablets as a game-changer, stating, “These 940 tablets will significantly improve the quality of immunization data, providing verifiable records crucial for decision-making.”
Health CS Susan Nakhumicha expressed optimism about the tablets’ impact, noting, “It is my desire and hope that these tablets will greatly enhance our data collection and transmission processes, ultimately leading to better health outcomes.”
Public Health PS Mary Muthoni highlighted the role of digital technology in advancing health systems, stating, “Technology has the potential to reduce health costs by up to 15% through evidence-based digital investments.”
With the tablets set to be deployed at the National Vaccines and Immunization Program, experts anticipate a reduction in data errors, increased immunisation coverage, and improved vaccine stock management. This donation marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to combat vaccine-preventable diseases and enhance public health services.
