President Ruto, a believer of the youth as a driving force for change, has called on to the young people of the country and African continent at large to be bold and take up their rightful place in the conversation for climate change. He said this age group is so powerful that its voice can no longer be left at the periphery.
The President continued on to reiterate that the youth, with their energy, drive and ingenuity, must take charge and position themselves at the center of driving this new narrative about our continent.
The Head of State observed that there were plans to incorporate a youth representative into the African Union (AU).
H.E President Ruto also made a promise to ensure that the next summit of the AU has youth, not as attendees but with a statement on what they think the outfit should do.
He emphasized the need for Africa’s carbon assets to be accurately valued, calling for the establishment of a carbon market aligned with global pricing standards. Furthermore, the President asked the youth, who he termed as energetic and creative, to take charge and position themselves at the center of driving the new narrative about Africa.
President Ruto also noted that the African continent has a decisive opportunity to effect climate action to make its voice heard and to create a better future for the continent. The President called on Africa to explore opportunities in the agricultural sector to create jobs and expand value-addition industries. He also stated that Africa has ample renewable energy potential and resources to green its own consumption and meaningfully contribute to decarburization of the global economy.
In agreement, the CS for the Ministry of Environment, stated that there is a need for the Kenyan youth to pursue innovative ideas on green technologies.
