President William Ruto has expressed strong support for Dorcas Oduor, who was sworn in as Kenya’s first female Attorney General on Tuesday. Speaking at State House, Ruto stated that Oduor’s appointment is a testament to her competence and capability, rather than merely being a historic milestone for women in leadership.

“This appointment is not just about you being a woman; it’s about you being competent. I am very confident that on account of your confidence and ability to deliver, you deserve to serve in this position,” Ruto declared during the ceremony.

The President highlighted the significance of Oduor’s role, saying, “You will not only make us as a country proud but also demonstrate what has always been said: that what a man can do, maybe a woman can do better. Many people will be watching.”

Ruto urged Oduor to collaborate effectively with other government agencies to ensure timely and appropriate legal representation for the government and the people of Kenya. “It is very important, Madam Attorney General, that you work with all the other agencies to make sure that responsibility and legal representation is robust,” he said.

Oduor takes over from Justin Muturi, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Public Service in Ruto’s new Cabinet. Her confirmation by the National Assembly followed a thorough vetting process by the Committee on Appointments.
