The country, thanks to the efforts of the President, H.E Dr. Ruto and the CS for the Ministry of Environment Hon. Soipan just hosted the first ever Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi. The inaugural Africa Climate Summit attracted the Secretary General of the United Nations, the President of the European Union, 20 Heads of States and Governments and more than 16,000 delegates.

It also brought together 12 former Heads of States and Governments and deputies, 66 ministers from different countries and more than 20 leaders of international organizations, donor agencies and development banks. The summit has placed Kenya and President Ruto at the center stage for climate change in Africa. It also reminded the African continent and the world at large a few notable characteristics of Kenya’s President.

  1. The President is a Force of Change to be reckoned with.

In all his addresses during the Africa Climate Summit and the Youth Climate Summit, H.E President Ruto has reminded the world that climate change and the impacts felt especially by Africans, can be reversed and changed. He has continuously called for all, national governments of the world, the private sector, the young and the old, to take up the mantle of change, to embrace the practices that best protect the environment such as embracing green energy and challenged many to heed the call. The President bravely called for the support of developing countries to overcome the climate crisis. This is the time rich nations put talk into action by fulfilling their promises to help poorer economies adapt to climate and to mitigate the loss and damage.

He also called for more radical, dynamic, responsive and inclusive financial system to enable the continent to deliver a win-win climate action for all humanity.

  • The President is Respected Global Leader.

With African and global presidents and former heads of state, heads of major international organizations, ministers from other countries and more than 16,000 delegates attending the Africa Climate Summit, this proved that President Ruto is widely respected as a leader on the global stage. One of the promises the President made before taking over presidency was to improve the country’s global standing, to stand tall as a trusted exporter, a travel destination, a host of international events and much more. The attendance of the summit shows that in just one year, President Ruto has commanded the kind of respect that sets him and the country apart.

The friendships and partnerships forged in this summit will be significant for agricultural reforms, climate change action, improved service delivery, increased revenue and much more. The summit served to showcase Kenya in its splendor.
