In a press briefing on Thursday, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura defended President William Ruto’s recent initiative to relaunch stalled projects initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Mwaura characterized this move as a significant act of accountability, aimed at ensuring these projects are completed in alignment with the government’s development agenda.

“If a project is stalled and it is relaunched, there is nothing as noble as that. It is the greatest extent of accountability,” Mwaura stated, highlighting Ruto’s commitment to seeing these initiatives through. He emphasized that the relaunches signify the government’s intention to fulfill its promises to the Kenyan people.

Mwaura explained that many of the projects had been stalled due to funding issues linked to Kenya’s current debt situation. “When you re-engineer it again and have it relaunched, that is very noble,” he added, reinforcing that Ruto is merely keeping the commitments he made during his campaign.

This defense follows recent criticism from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, who addressed concerns raised by Lawyer Morara Kebaso regarding the nature of these relaunch events. Mohamed clarified that such ceremonies often mark the beginning of new contracts, stating, “A project launch is often just a ceremonial event… Don’t overly concern yourself with plaques.”

Additionally, Mwaura touched on the ongoing review of the new university education funding model, assuring the public that the government is committed to addressing any concerns.
