On March 8th, the world celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD). It is a day designated to recognize the achievements of women in social, economic, cultural, and political spheres.

This year, the United Nations has chosen the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” highlighting the significance of investing in women’s education, economic empowerment, healthcare, and leadership development to attain gender equality.

The Ruto administration is dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering women. The government has implemented policies and programs to promote women’s health, education, and economic empowerment, enabling their participation in various spheres.

The Jitume program stands out as a crucial initiative in achieving digital equity. It establishes digital hubs across the country, offering women free and convenient access to digital skills. This access serves as a vital tool for education, job creation, and participation in the digital economy.

Moreover, the government has introduced programs like the Hustler Fund, a microfinance initiative tailored to support women-led businesses. This program facilitates access to affordable credit, enabling women to expand their ventures and make more significant contributions to the economy.

There are ongoing endeavors to encourage gender inclusivity in leadership positions across multiple sectors. These initiatives aim to encourage women to actively engage in political office and decision-making processes.

International Women’s Day serves as a call to action. Investing in women and ensuring their inclusion across all facets of society can expedite progress towards a fairer and more equitable future for all.

Happy International Women’s Day!
