Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured counties that the government is fully committed to the timely disbursement of funds. Speaking at the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) session yesterday, Monday,29th January 2024, Gachagua emphasized the government’s dedication to making devolution work effectively.

“I wish to emphasize our commitment to the timely disbursement of funds to counties. We are nearly up to date for December 2023,” stated the Deputy President.

During the session, the IBEC called upon the National Treasury to release pending allocations, with priority given to counties yet to receive their funds.

The National Treasury has pledged to clear the pending disbursements from December 2023 within two weeks, with a focus on counties that had not received any allocation in January 2024.

Furthermore, discussions are underway regarding the equitable share of revenue for the financial year 2024/25, with varying proposals from different government bodies. Gachagua also urged governors to settle pending bills, stressing the importance of prompt payments to stimulate the local economy.
