The government and the Ministry of Tourism are working to position Kenya as a destination for battlefield tourism as part of the efforts to diversify the country’s tourism offerings. The Ministry of Tourism has since noted that there is here is a need to diversify tourism products by developing new attractions to entice visitors to other parts of the country away from beach and safaris.

Promoting cultural tourism and battlefield tourism are some of the ways the tourism sector in Kenya can grow and diversify. The government through the BETA Agenda is dedicated to this diversification for the economic growth of the sector and the country’s revenue growth.

The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Hon. Peninah Malonza yesterday met with a delegation from Taita Taveta County, led by the CEC for Tourism, Ms. Gloria Manikombo. The CS and the county delegation discussed areas of partnership to restore and market World War 1 East African Campaign military installations that dot Taita Taveta County’s landscape.

This will bolster the local economy through tourist spending. It will also support educating our people on historical heritage, as visitors will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in history through interactive and captivating experiences.
