In a resounding testament to their shared commitment to ensuring every Kenyan citizen’s access to high-quality and affordable healthcare, the Kenyan government and the Ismaili Community joined hands during the Ismaili Global Civic Weekend in Nairobi. This event underscored the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in the journey towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and marked a significant milestone in Kenya’s healthcare landscape.

Aligned with the core tenets of the Kenyan Constitution, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Vision 2030, and the Kenya Kwanza #AfyaBoraMashinani initiative, the Kenyan government has consistently demonstrated an unwavering dedication to bridging healthcare gaps within the nation. Substantial investments have been directed toward critical health system pillars, including Human Resources for Health (HRH), Health Financing, Health Products and Technologies, and the Digitization of Health Systems.

Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, representing the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, delivered a compelling address during the Ismaili Global Civic Weekend. She underscored the imperative of a collective effort in realizing Universal Health Coverage and emphasized the crucial role of partnerships in this endeavor.

PS Muthoni took a moment to laud the Ismaili Community for their invaluable partnership, which has significantly bolstered the government’s healthcare initiatives. Notably, the Ismaili Community’s support extends to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and providing insurance services through Aga Khan Hospitals and Clinics.

As a testament to their commitment to community well-being, the Kenyan Ismaili Community organized a series of impactful initiatives throughout the weekend. These included the hosting of free medical camps, blood donation drives, and tree planting initiatives, all meticulously designed to elevate public health and welfare.

Principal Secretary Muthoni remarked that these actions vividly exemplify the community’s dedication to the principles of Public-Private Partnerships, which play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare within the nation. She affirmed, “The Government of Kenya deeply appreciates such partnerships and will continue to leverage them to propel the nation towards Universal Health Coverage.”

This collaborative effort between the Kenyan government and the Ismaili Community stands as a shining example of the transformative power that unity and collaboration can bring to healthcare. It charts the course towards a future where access to superior healthcare is not a privilege but an essential right for every Kenyan citizen. With such initiatives, Kenya moves steadfastly closer to the realization of comprehensive and inclusive healthcare coverage.
