In light of terrorism threats across the globe, the government has committed to strengthening its counter-terrorism capacity for the safety of Kenyans and the country as a whole.

In a bid to strengthen security, enhance response and increase visibility around the country’s borderlines, Internal Security PS Raymond Omollo who is also the Chair, Border Control and Operations Coordination Committee (BCOCC) officially opened the Regional Counterterrorism Training Center at Kanyoyoo Border Police Unit in Kitui County today.

The Administration Police Service center is a fully functional training facility that offers a wide range of courses and advanced tactical operations.

So far, 264 Border Police Unit (BPU) officers have been trained as part of the program, with the numbers expected to increase.

As intended, the facility will also bring together other security agencies from the neighboring countries, to deliver relevant fundamentals of joint border operation consultation.

“The Center, offering a broad spectrum of counterterrorism courses, advanced tactical operations and training, is an illustration of the strong and longstanding partnership between Kenya and the US Government, in addressing global security.” – said Dr. Raymond Omollo at the opening event.

Supported by the United States Government, the initiative is the largest within Kenya and Africa underscoring the great premium attached to our country as the beacon of peace in the Region, and a global champion in countering terrorism and violent extremism.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Noor Gabow, Deputy DCI Director Nicholas Kamwende, Chris Landberg, Senior Bureau of Counter Terrorism, Kimberly Brown, Antiterrorism Assistance Program (ATA) program manager, BPU commandants, and representatives from the US Embassy in Nairobi were also present in the event.
