Together with various partners, H.E Gachagua today provided humanitarian assistance in the form of food and nonfood items to the displaced people of Garissa County. This is besides financial support under the social protection safety net program.

The exercise was launched at Garissa Police Training College grounds and the neighboring Madogo area in Tana River County.

Through a multi-agency team, the government has intensified interventions to ensure no more lives are lost to El Nino and are deliberate in the efforts to restore livelihoods.

Working with the Counties and Partners, the DP said that the government is also repairing destroyed infrastructure including roads, to improve response for the people to go back to their normal lives. Every corner of Garissa County cut off by the floods will receive humanitarian support at this time of crisis.

“On behalf of President William Ruto, we deeply appreciate our International and Local Partners for standing with us at this time of the El Nino crisis. We thank the County Government of Garissa for being in the frontline in response,” H.E Gachagua said in his address.

The DP made passionate appeal to the Counties to prioritize and divert resources to the emergency response.

 At Garsen, Tana River County, the DP with other leaders scaled up the humanitarian assistance to the thousands of families by providing food, non-food items, medicines and money under the cash transfers safety net program.

This will continue to cover the eight most affected counties as well as the other regions. Resources have been deployed to support these immediate interventions as the government works with partners on resilience structures.

As part of the interventions of returning normalcy, H.E Gachagua also assessed the extent of the El Nino damage on sections of Madogo-Garissa Road.

He inspected the ongoing works of restoring the road networks and other infrastructure.
