The State Department for Irrigation and the State Department for Trade are joining forces in a significant move to strengthen Kenya’s agricultural sector and trade. PS Irrigation, Ephantus Kimotho, paid a courtesy call to his counterpart, Alfred K’Ombudo, at Teleposta House, where they discussed important matters that touch on the welfare of farmers.

Their primary focus was on forging a partnership to educate grassroots farmers and traders. This initiative aims to provide farmers with comprehensive knowledge, covering the entire value chain from farm produce to value addition and trade opportunities.

This collaboration promises numerous benefits. Firstly, it seeks to enhance irrigation scheme projects by improving infrastructure. Secondly, it aims to bolster food production through irrigated agriculture, thereby improving farmers’ livelihoods. Lastly, it aims to open up new markets and investment opportunities, potentially increasing farmers’ income and contributing to overall economic growth.

This partnership underscores President Ruto’s government commitment to empowering farmers and traders. By strengthening the agricultural sector and facilitating trade opportunities within the country, this initiative has the potential to transform the lives of many Kenyan farmers
