In a move aimed at harnessing technology and innovation for economic growth, President William Ruto affirmed Kenya’s commitment to promoting science and technology. The President made these remarks during the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of IBM Research-Africa Labs at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi County.

President Ruto emphasized that technology is a crucial enabler that will enhance Kenya’s competitiveness and diversify its economy, ultimately expediting its development journey. He highlighted the importance of integrating science and innovation into government services to unlock the nation’s technological potential, optimize resource utilization, and foster a culture of innovation among Kenyan citizens.

Furthermore, President Ruto called on IBM, a global technology leader, to expand its collaboration with Kenya by establishing IBM labs in Kenyan universities and government ministries, departments, and agencies in need of research facilities. This step is expected to bolster research and development efforts, driving innovation and technological advancement within the country.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Cabinet Secretaries Eliud Owalo and Ezekiel Machogu, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, and senior executives from IBM, including Dr. Dario Gil, Dr. Allesandro Curioni, and Dr. Solomon Assefa. Julia Carvalho, General Manager of IBM-Africa Growth Markets, was also in attendance.
