The Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Joseph Motari today disclosed that his Department is finalizing a report on the impact assessment of cash transfers.

This is aimed at informing the public on the effectiveness of the Inua Jamii Programme since its inception

The PS said the launch of the report, in Mandera County, will underscore the government’s commitment to inclusivity and social protection for all Kenyans, irrespective of their background or location.

The PS spoke during a meeting with the Governor of Mandera County Mohamed Khalif, who paid him a courtesy call.

The significant challenges with the transition from household-based to individual-based support for families with multiple members facing severe disabilities was brought to light, during the meeting.

While responding to some concerns raised by members of the county government of Mandera and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, the Principal Secretary indicated that potential collaborations in social protection initiatives were underway to provide technical support and enhance the welfare of persons with disabilities in Mandera and its residents at large.

At the meeting, the Mandera governor commended the Ministry of Labor’s proactive adoption of the new Inua Jamii approach, utilizing M-PESA to facilitate easier access to funds for older persons, orphans, vulnerable children, and individuals with severe disabilities.
