State Department of Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs PS Joseph Motari, yesterday launched a comprehensive landscape analysis of disability at the county and national levels.

The purpose of the study is to lay the foundation for future program collaboration, contribute to achieving service delivery for persons with disabilities, and provide insights on disability policies, programs, and emerging challenges.

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities, empowers individuals with disabilities to effectively participate in socio-economic development through inclusive training and skill development.

The government aims to create awareness and educate the public on the rights, needs, and opportunities of persons with disabilities, while also enhancing social protection for this community.

The report indicates that respondents surveyed called for the need to review the eligibility criteria for the Inua Jamii program to better meet the needs of the most vulnerable persons with disabilities.

As directed by President Ruto, the state department carried out a scale-up activity to onboard additional beneficiaries under the Inua Jamii program.

In 2023, the government oversaw an increase of Inua Jamii beneficiaries from 1.2 Million to 1.9 Million.

Under the PWSD – CT program about 137,000 potential beneficiaries were listed pending onboarding to the payroll. Additionally, the government has shifted the disbursement frequency from every three months to monthly, eliminating the long wait families used to endure before they received the funds.

Service delivery has also gone notch higher with the integration of receiving funds through Mpesa.
