In the upcoming short rains, the Ministry of Environment and the government has set a target to plant more than 500 Million trees across the country.
In partnership with various state agencies such as the National Youth Service and the Correctional Services, the government is committed to making strides towards the realization of reforestation of the country.
As the short rains set in, Kenyans are advised to get out, roll their sleeves and get down to planting trees. The Ministry of Environment has set 500 million seedlings as the national target for the 3-months short rains season, October to December.
The Ministry is determined to exceed the 500m seedlings target through active participation of all Kenyans including school children who will be home soon for the long school holidays.
As Kenyans plant trees, they’re advised to include fruit, nut and fodder species which are a source of income and food as well as record on the Ministry of Environment’s , Jaza Miti App to enable the government to keep record of Kenya’s progress towards the 15bn tree target by 2032.
Cabinet Secretary Hon Soipan Tuya on Thursday met the 15bn Tree Growing Program Secretariat to firm up roll out plans for short rains season as well as assess overall progress of the Government’s flagship climate action initiative.
