President William Ruto has challenged the church to partner with the government in its efforts to achieve food security in the country.

Speaking after AIPCA Church service at Kasarani on Sunday, Ruto revealed Kenya currently spends Ksh500 b a year on food imports, something draining the Central Bank of Kenya dollar reserves.

“At the moment, we import food worth Sh500 billion every year. That is the food we can produce here in Kenya.”

The president said that the government had deliberately decided that it would help farmers to produce sufficient food in the country to cut down on imports.

‘We have decided that we will use that money to buy food from our farmers,” Ruto said.

The government has made steps to supply farmers with cheaper fertiliser in efforts to improve yields and enhance food security.
