President Ruto on Thursday inaugurated the Ngusishi Potato Cold Storage Facility in Buuri, Meru County, aiming to support 35,000 farmers by reducing post-harvest losses and stabilizing potato prices.

The facility’s establishment seeks to eliminate brokers from the supply chain, ultimately increasing farmers’ earnings through improved market access and price stability.

Ruto called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure that hunger is no longer a challenge Kenyans have to face.

He said that the government cannot spend hundreds of billions yearly in buying food from other countries when the same food can grow in the country.

The head of state and his deputy are currently hosted by Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Senator Kathuri Murungi and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, among other high-ranking government officials allied with UDA in their three day Meru tour.
