Dorcas Rigathi, the Spouse of the Deputy President, has raised alarm over the escalating prevalence of depression and frustration among students in schools, particularly those who have succumbed to drug and substance abuse.

Addressing students at Kisii High School, Dorcas expressed her deep concern, stating, “I cannot relent in speaking to our children, especially the boys because in many cases of depression, cases of suicide, many of the victims are our boys.”

Acknowledging the impact of her interactions with students, she emphasized, “When I talk to them in schools, I see some even crying and that tells me they are listening. That is why we want to speak to them, to inspire them and to encourage them to give them hope for their future in this country and even beyond.”

In her ongoing efforts to address this pressing issue, Dorcas is scheduled to engage with students at St. Joseph High School in Kehancha, Migori County Friday.

Her recent engagements have included visits to Kangaru High School, University of Embu, University of Nairobi, Daystar University, Masai Mara University, and various other institutions of higher learning, as well as secondary schools and prisons.

Furthermore, Dorcas is poised to lead the inmates of Kendege Prison in a tree-planting exercise on Friday, as part of her multifaceted approach to positively impact the lives of students and inmates alike.
