Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced a nationwide investigation into Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) that are charging fees to parents.
In a statement released today, Thursday 25th January 2024 Machogu declared, “I have constituted a team that will go around the country because there are a few con people who want to go against government directive that no fee should be charged at JSS level.”
The CS emphasized the government’s commitment to providing free education at the JSS level, stating, “JSS ought to be free… I won’t allow the President to fire me because of a few who don’t want to do their work as instructed.”
Machogu also revealed that he will personally visit all 28,000 JSS schools in the country within the next two weeks to ensure compliance with the government’s directive.
Furthermore, Machogu addressed the issue of school uniforms, stating, “If the parent is unable to buy a new uniform, the learner should continue using the uniform they had in Grade 6 till the time the parent will be able to buy a new uniform.”
