Ministry of Labour and Social Protection CS Hon Florence Bore has launched the Impact Assessment Report on the Cash Transfer Program for Persons with Severe Disabilities in Mandera County. CS Bore was accompanied by Joseph Motari, Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizens Affairs.

The report prepared by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities shows that cash transfer is the main source of livelihood for the PWDs.

Hon Bore reiterated her ministry’s commitment in ensuring that the recommendations in the report are implemented including lobbying for the allocation of additional resources to facilitate effective expansion of the program.

Social Protection programs have proven to be key in developing countries’ efforts to fighting poverty and hunger.

Currently, the number of beneficiaries for the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Program is 1.2 Million out of which 47,000 households are for Persons with severe disabilities.

The government predicts that at the end of the year 2024, the program will have about 1.7M Inua Jamii beneficiaries with the Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer scaling up to 65,281 households.

Mandera County governor Hon. Mohamed Adan Khalif hosted the event.
