Hon. Kindiki, the CS for Ministry of Interior yesterday attended the National Emergency Response Committee meeting chaired by H.E Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Harambee House Annex Office.

“The Ministry of Interior and National Administration continues to provide security response round the clock and assist in monitoring the situation, as above normal rains continue to pound various parts of the country,” – Hon. Kindiki.

Nineteen Counties, mostly in Arid and Semi-Arid areas have been affected by the heavy rains, including displacement of residents, destruction of infrastructure, disruption of transport and communication, and loss of crops and livestock.

The Government, in partnership with development partners and humanitarian agencies, has established a robust programme to distribute food and non-food items to families affected by floods to alleviate their suffering.

“Working with our development partners, counties, and other key agencies, we are distributing food and non-food items to tens of families affected to reduce their suffering”, said H.E Gachagua at the meeting.

As stated by H.E Deputy President Gachagua, the government is also supplying safe and clean water and addressing other sanitation concerns in the various rescue centers.

Evacuation of affected individuals, provision of health services, and public sensitization in flood-prone areas to encourage movement to safer grounds are the top priorities for the National Emergency Response Committee, emphasizing a proactive approach to address critical needs during the ongoing El-Nino crisis.

The National Emergency Response Committee is coordinating a consolidated approach for efficiency and effective action. This is preventing duplication of the response as well as ensuring no place or person is left behind.

As the government calls for more support from the development partners and the Private Sector, the Kenya Kwanza administration has promised that they will deploy all the necessary resources to avert loss of lives and livelihoods.
