On the 9th of November afternoon, H.E President Ruto gave his first ever State of Nation Address in Parliament. The address which was much anticipated across the country which highlighted the Kenya Kwanza administration wins in the past one year, has since served as a symbol of hope to many who may have had their doubts.

Many of the promises made by the Kenya Kwanza government have come to pass or in the process of passing.

Price of Unga is one these. Earlier this year, the price of maize flour has skyrocketed all the way to 200/- from a 90-110 price range of previous years. One of the challenges farmers experienced was the price of fertilizers, a much needed input for a bountiful harvest. The government has since put in place appropriate measures to combat this.

“I am committed to put the shame of hunger behind us once and for all. We rolled out a countrywide farmer registration and fertilizer subsidy program that has made available 5.5 million bags to farmers across Kenya. We have progressively reduced the cost of fertilizer from KSh7,500 to KSh2,500, increased maize acreage under production by an extra 200,000 acres and enhanced maize production by an additional 18 million bags,” Said President Ruto in his address.

Coffee, tea and sugar cane farmers have also experienced major reforms in their sub-sectors.

From the address, the President highlighted his government’s dedication to improving the education sector. More than 56,000 teachers have been recruited in just one year, the highest number of newly recruited teachers ever. The government has also made changes to the entry requirements for teacher training colleges, admission has increased by 300 per cent to 20,456 trainees.

The government has also increased funding into the universities, TVETs and the HELB funding for university students.

To highlight just a few, the address reminded Kenyans that the President has the welfare of all Wananchi at heart, and his government is dedicated to improving all aspects of Kenyan’s lives.
