DP Gachagua’s Belgium Visit Highlights

H.E DP Rigathi Gachagua is currently in Belgium, where he is attending the Global Gateway Forum – Digital Innovation, Green Energy, Transport, Healthcare and Education, hosted by the European Commission. While there, the DP has had some significant wins. These are:

  1. Kenyans in the Diaspora

H.E Gachagua met with Kenyans living in the country, where he has expressed his appreciation for them while also taking the time to listen to their grievances which has promised to address.

  • Firming the Cooperatives.

Yesterday, the Deputy President had a fruitful engagement with the Secretary General of COPA COGECA, Pekka Pesonen on areas of collaboration in firming the Cooperatives in Kenya. 

COPA COGECA is the biggest Cooperative Movement for farmers in Europe. The empowerment of cooperatives in Kenya is directly linked to the empowerment and growth of farmers in the country.

  • Investment Opportunities.

H.E Gachagua also met Dr. Veerle Vandekeerd of the Global Entrepreneurship Centre, on technical and financial investment in sparking and accelerating entrepreneurship in Kenya. In the quest to create more jobs for the young people in Kenya, the government is exploring partnership opportunities to invest more in the digital and innovation entrepreneurship subsector.

  • Bilateral Talks

The Deputy President also held discussions with the World Trade Organization Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala which centered on opportunities of sustainably exploiting the Blue Economy, a key resource for wealth creation. 

  • Financial Grant.

Kenya received a grant of 72 Million Euros (KSH11.5 Billion) from the European Union under the Multiannual Action Plan 2023-2024.

This is under the Neighborhood Development and International Cooperation Instruments.

The money fund projects in:

-The Green Transition- Environmental Sustainability and Resilience

– Leave No One Behind- Human Development and Digital Inclusion

– Democratic Governance, Peace and Stability.
