Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on the church to play a more active role in combatting the illegal sale, distribution, and consumption of illicit alcohol and hard drugs in the country. Addressing a gathering of clergy at his official residence in Karen, the Deputy President emphasized the urgency of the church’s involvement in addressing these pressing societal issues.

During the meeting, Deputy President Gachagua stated, “You must talk about this thing (illicit alcohol and drugs) every Sunday because those consuming are not doing it at home.” He highlighted the influential position of the church in society and stressed the importance of guidance and counseling from the clergy in tackling this critical issue.

Comparing the alcohol and drug menace to the global crisis of HIV/AIDS, the Deputy President urged the clergy to dedicate time in their sermons to raise awareness and provide support. Pastor Dorcas, who was also present at the gathering, encouraged the clergy to open their places of worship to help rescue individuals struggling with addiction, stating, “It is time we guide our children in the right way.”

This call to action comes as part of a larger effort to address the growing problem of substance abuse in the country, with the Deputy President and Pastor Dorcas leading the charge in mobilizing the church to support those affected by addiction.
