Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has unveiled plans for a shift in the education system. By 2026, Grade 10 to 12 students across the country will have access to STEM courses in most of the 11,000 Senior Schools.
Speaking today, Wednesday, April 3, 2024 when he was officiating a stakeholder’s engagement on Senior School and Teacher Education at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi.
Kipsang outlined the introduction of three distinct career pathways in Senior Schools: STEM, Social Sciences (humanities), and performing arts, music, and athletics. He expressed the ministry’s commitment to enhancing schools’ capacity to offer these diverse pathways effectively.
Furthermore, Kipsang highlighted the importance of retooling teachers to deliver quality education to Grade 10 learners, ensuring readiness for the upcoming changes.
The ministry aims for each Senior School to provide at least two career pathways, with national schools potentially offering up to three pathways, maximizing the investments made in these institutions.
