President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration has shown a determination to increase food production in the country and reduce post-harvest losses through use of modern technology and advanced farming solutions as they aim to achieve food security.
Earlier yesterday, Agriculture CS Hon. Linturi, who was on a tour in Nakuru County, unveiled five solar mobile grain dryers out of the 100 for our farmers at the Nakuru National Cereals and Produce Board Depot.
The mobile grain dryers will be available to farmers at Elburgon, Olenguruone, Subukia, Naivasha and Nakuru NCPB Depots and across the country.
In Meru, the CS delivered a mobile grain dryer to the Meru NCPB depot to assist famers speed up drying of their grains and avoid post-harvest losses.
In order to boost farming of cash crops, Hon. Linturi announced an incentive token of sunflower seeds to every farmer in Meru County who purchases the subsidized fertilizer from NCPB depot.
The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary also attended the groundbreaking of the construction of Kibuline drying and storage facility in Tigania West, Meru County.
The new facility will aid in the curbing of post-harvest losses and giving farmers a storage point for their harvests.
The government is currently working on price stabilization.
So far, 43 Mobile Grain Dryers have been delivered and distributed to various NCPB depots. The government is keen on implementing measures to reduce post-harvest losses through the deployment of mobile grain dryers in key maize growing regions.
