The government has issued a flood warning for residents living around the Seven Forks Dams, including Masinga, Kamburu, Gitaru, Kindaruma, and Kiambere. Isaac Mwaura, the government spokesperson, emphasized the urgent situation, stating, “All the dams under the Seven Forks Dams are now at total capacity, and there is a prediction of a massive overflow downstream within the next 24 hours.”

Mwaura further advised residents in these areas to move to higher grounds immediately to ensure their safety. Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki had previously warned about the potential for significant flooding downstream due to continuous rainfall in the Tana River and River Thiba catchment areas.

The government has reported a tragic toll from the floods, with 76 lives lost, including six deaths in the last 12 hours. Additionally, 131,450 individuals have been displaced, with Nairobi experiencing the highest impact.

Security and Intelligence Teams have been directed to monitor and report situations closely, with the possibility of issuing mandatory evacuation orders in specific areas for public safety. The Kenya Coast Guard, National Police Service, and Kenya Defense Forces are collaborating to intensify search and rescue efforts in the affected regions.
