A section of Mt Kenya leaders from Nyeri and Laikipia counties have cautioned President William Ruto to tread carefully while engaging Opposition leader Raila Odinga following a decision by the Kenya Kwanza administration to front him for AU Commission Chairperson.

Speaking on Saturday at a burial in Gitero, Nyeri Town constituency, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and his Laikipia counterpart Joshua Irungu expressed concern that Odinga could “infiltrate” government through his new-found relationship with President Ruto.

“He (Ruto) must be careful. We have seen in the past [Raila] utilizing such an opportunity to infiltrate Moi, Kibaki, and Uhuru government and wrecking the boat from within.

“In the past, we have seen how the then deputy and now president William Ruto was treated on entry of Odinga in Uhuru’s administration we would not like a similar scenario to happen to our son,” Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said.

Laikipia Governor John Irungu on his part described Mr. Odinga as a crafty politician who cannot be trusted.

“Ruto should deal with Odinga in a situation where one has to sleep with one eye closed while the other open since he can start something fishy anytime,” said Irungu.
