Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced that the long-awaited solution to passport backlog is finally within sight. “We are pleased to confirm that two new passport printing machines have been procured and are set to arrive by the end of this month,” Mwaura said in a news statement.

This development comes after months of frustration among Kenyan citizens due to persistent delays in passport issuance. The government’s proactive steps have been welcomed, especially as over 70,000 passports remain uncollected at various Immigration offices across the country.

Mwaura further reassured the public, stating, “Currently, there are 100,000 more passports in production, demonstrating our commitment to addressing this issue and ensuring timely delivery of essential documents.”

The government’s swift action is a direct response to the ongoing concerns raised by citizens. Despite previous assurances from the Interior Ministry Cabinet Secretary in 2023, delays continued to plague the system, causing widespread dissatisfaction among passport applicants.
