The Ministry of Water has announced a collaboration with the private sector to secure vital funds for combating water scarcity in the country. Forestry and Natural Resources committee chair Andrew Mwadime and Water and Sanitation CS Zacharia Njeru have emphasized the critical need for private sector involvement to bolster financial resources.

Speaking today, Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the ongoing Water and Sanitation Investors Conference, themed “Accelerating Investments for the Sustainable Access to Water and Sanitation for All, ” Mwadime emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships, stating, “Public-private partnerships are a crucial mechanism for addressing insufficient funding towards universal and equitable access to safe and affordable water for all stakeholders are strategizing on integrated water resources management and sustainable infrastructure investments to address the pressing water crisis.”

CS Njeru highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “Water scarcity is a threat to the growth of Kenya’s economy which we intend to eradicate.” Plans include the construction of 100 dams over the next five years to enhance water supply nationwide.

Mwadime emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Council of Governors and private sectors, stating, “We are focusing on advocating for the development of county and national investor-friendly policy frameworks and regulations to create an attractive environment for investments in the water and sanitation sector.”

This partnership aims to accelerate progress towards universal access to clean and safe water, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s quest for sustainable water management.
