The BETA Agenda strongly calls for digitization of government services to better streamline service delivery to the people and it is in line with this that the PS for State Department for Water and Sanitation Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh has today challenged all stakeholders in the water sector to digitize all services in order to serve the citizens well.
Participants drawn from ICT officials from all water sector agencies, banks and internet service operators have been tasked to develop a comprehensive digital transformation strategy and work plan to guide smooth integration of technology and methodological flow to identify and engage stakeholders to collaborate and support the work plan.
The Kenya Kwanza government aims at making all services to be paperless and enhance technology and innovation. Exemplary service delivery to all Kenyans in all corners of the country is at the core of President Ruto’s government.
Non-Revenue Water levels in the country are currently at 45%, being on the higher side.
The PS, in a speech read on his behalf by the Water Secretary Eng. SAO Alima, urged the stakeholders to come up with an action plan on how they can implement technology bearing in mind that we need to know how much water we have and the resultant revenue collection.
The areas of technology enhancement include and are not limited to installation of smart meters. All Water Service Providers across the country are urged to implement the migration process from analog to digital meters by December 2023. The migration has to produce a clear digitization program and plan of action.
Participants were taken through the background in the best practices in the implementation of smart technology in the water sector globally, regionally and the Kenyan situation by Eng. SAO Alima.
In his closing remarks, the PS expressed optimism that this digital transformation strategy will bring real change in the water sector and thereby create more revenue for the utilities.
