Irrigation PS Ephantus Kimotho recently met with Turkana County leadership led by H.E Governor Hon Jeremiah Lomorukai, Hon. Protus Akujah and Hon. Emathe Namuar to discuss among several areas in line with Irrigation services in Turkana County.

The PS and Turkana leadership agreed to work collaboratively to increase acreage under irrigation, explore areas to start new irrigation projects, and resolve challenges facing the current irrigation projects.

This will unlock the potentially rich irrigation capacity and ensure the county becomes a bread basket and export giant. This is in line with the BETA Plans which seeks to increase the country’s agricultural products exported.

H.E President Ruto has been to numerous countries around the world in search of new markets for the country’s products.

Turkana County currently has 7 under production irrigation projects aimed at growing the country’s stable foods on completion.

The projected increase in irrigation projects will be a significant addition to the country’s food supply, which will be a step closer to President Ruto’s goal of reducing food imports in the future.

This will also see a increase in the employment opportunities in the region as well as an increase in the development projects.

President Ruto has made a commitment to ensure his government builds secure and modernized markets in all the major towns in the country. With a growth in irrigation in Turkana County, there will be a need for a market for Kenyans to buy and sell their food stuff. This will see a significant improvement of many livelihoods.
