Unemployment amongst the younger generation in Kenya remains as one of the most petulant thorns in the country’s flesh. Skilled and unskilled laborers continue to tarmac hopelessly as unemployment glares into their faces.
The Kenyan workforce boasts of about 19 Million Kenyans. However, only 15% of this number is currently absorbed into both the private and public sectors.
There arises a need, therefore, for the government to create employment opportunities in the various sectors. This is aimed at not only for the socio-economic benefits but also for the mental and emotional well-being of Kenyans.
As President Ruto promised, his government has launched projects such as the Affordable Housing Project as a major employer.
In the past one year of President Ruto’s presidency, the Affordable Housing Project has been a direct employer of over 50,000 skilled and unskilled young people.
With a target of over 250,000 houses to be constructed, this number can only increase, positively impacting thousands of households in the country.
Businesses situated in areas with ongoing construction such as manufacturers of steel products and the like have noted a boom in their earnings. This in turn has led to an increase in their hired manpower, a direct result of President Ruto’s project.
