The Ministry of Interior has announced its commitment to expediting the full implementation of the Public Benefits Organizations (PBO) Act, a pivotal step towards enhancing transparency and collaboration within civil society.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo emphasized the government’s eagerness to swiftly enact the Act, fostering a conducive environment for the registration and regulation of PBOs, formerly known as NGOs.

During the conclusion of the three-day PBO Act Implementation Consultative Forum in Elementaita, Omollo stressed the pivotal role of PBOs in advancing societal and economic progress, underlining the need for strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors.

The Act, effective since May 14, mandates a structured and transparent framework aimed at fortifying the PBO sector’s impact and accessibility to the public.

Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority chairperson, Mwambu Mabongah, reaffirmed the Board’s dedication to a comprehensive implementation process, urging all stakeholders to contribute actively to its success.

CEO Mutuma Nkanata reiterated the importance of sustained collaboration in enforcing the Act, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to address any gaps in the legislation.

The Ministry of Interior is poised to provide unwavering support to ensure a seamless and inclusive implementation process, fostering a thriving PBO ecosystem dedicated to executing humanitarian aid during crises such as floods.
